1988 BRIMOD 4WD PROTOTYPE

Brimod Engineering Developments was a small UK outfit in the 1980s. They became renown for their high quality shock absorbers and other alloy hop-ups.

They started to venture into making their own full cars in 1988-89. I believe they released 2 Pro 10s on-road cars: the bullet and Talisman.

They also worked on a 2WD and 4WD 1/10 off-road prototype. All their cars were fairly innovative and try to push the envelope one way or another.

This is the 4WD prototype from Brimod. It had already been seriously restored by its previous owner. I simply had to clean it up a bit more, remove rust and sort out bearings all round.

The car features a belt drive system, flat composite arms, Brimod signature shocks and gorgeous alloy wheels. The front and rear hubs are substantial machined alloy components that would marvel any engineer enthusiast. The belt tensioner is spring loaded and there is a gear conversion ratio of some sort between the main shaft and rear diff.

It is fitted with a Parma Eagle body, which fits the car really well. Planning a new body for it soon.

Unfortunately Brimod came to an end in the early 1990s, and the prototype never made it to the public..
